A Weekend at South Vero Beach
Located in the Indian River County, South Vero Beach is a gorgeous hub of culture, nature, city life, and a popular destination spot for celebrities and ordinary people alike. Though small, it makes for an excellent tourist destination that’s perfect for a long vacation, or a short weekend getaway.
If you’re short on time but really need a place where you can relax, soak up some sun and enjoy local culture and cuisine, try out some fun water activities, Vero Beach is beyond ideal. It can be hard to pick out activities to do and sites to see when you’re pressed for time, but this list should help:
Visit the Wildlife Refuges and Reserves
If you’re interested in the incredibly diverse ecology of Florida, this is the perfect place to visit. Take your kids or go by yourself, but give yourself the opportunity to spot over forty varieties of birds and two hundred varieties of fish that call the Pelican Island Wildlife Refuge a safe space.
You can also visit the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area and see massive coffee plants, varieties of insects and birds all growing and flourishing. There’s also the beachy, quite Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. As you can see, Vero Beach is quite progressive with its conservation efforts!
Arts and Culture
A cultural haven, Vero Beach has an active arts and culture scene. From the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, to the Vero Beach Museum of Art, there’s a lot happening across town when it comes to performance and installation art. If you’re visiting at a time when the Vero Beach Wine and Film Festival is happening or a production by Riverside Theatre is on, be sure to catch them.
Water Adventure and Activities
Take a paddleboard tours Florida of Vero Beach, or maybe go on a kayaking adventure through the water trails. With Smoking Ace’s Adventures, you can explore the city’s lesser-known water trails for the experience of a lifetime—just get in touch A.S.A.P.! Take a boat ride along the coastline, and see if you end up in smaller creeks and marshes that are scattered around.
If you’re not in the mood for something daring, you can just sit back and enjoy the gorgeous beaches here. Vero Beach has many smaller beaches, like the Golden Sands Beach Park where you can go for a fun little picnic; or Humiston and Jaycee Park, which also host festivals and events.
Vero Beach is both happening, and quiet enough to be relaxing. Head over for a weekend and take your time to unwind. Stroll through the streets of this seafront town, shop, try some of the best food you’ll ever have in the Sunshine State!
